Kanakvalli – Then and Now
Our relationship with Kanakavalli has grown over the years — shaped by a shared respect for detail, thoughtfulness, and the power of personal stories. When they reached out to revisit a portrait series first created three years ago, it felt like stepping into an ongoing narrative — one we were now entrusted to carry forward with care and intention.
Nine women who had once shared their stories in front of the lens were invited back — this time to reflect on how their lives had evolved. The intention was simple: to honour their journeys with portraits that felt honest, intimate, and true to where they were now.
Each shoot was designed around the individual — photographed in her own hometown, with styling that felt personal yet quietly unexpected. Schedules were planned with care, ensuring comfort, dignity, and a sense of ease. Even the catering was tailored — a small gesture that added warmth to the experience so much so, that there were requests to pack the leftovers — always a good sign.
Across cities and timelines, this was a collaboration built on trust, empathy, and efficiency. More than a shoot, it became a shared experience — thoughtfully woven together to celebrate change, memory, and the quiet dignity of real stories told well.
